Paxlovid was granted emergency use authorization by the FDA in December 2021. Paxlovid can be used for the treatment of mild to moderate Covid-19 in people age 12 and up and who weigh at least 88 pounds and are at risk of severe disease.
US President Joe Biden took Paxlovid when he tested positive for Covid-19 last month.
Meanwhile, US first lady Jill Biden, who tested positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday, has also been prescribed a course of the oral antiviral pill Paxlovid.
