A mammoth of the hotel industry, Hyatt Regency is hosting a charity event ‘Let’s Give Back!’ in association with AmCham, to improve the determination process of cervical cancer. It remains one of the most preventable forms of cancer with proper diagnosis. Yet it still causes havoc in Cambodia where it is the most common cancer among women. With this special fundraising event, Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh and AmCham is making an effort to end the scourge of cervical cancer in Cambodia as a part of its CSR.

Owing to the lack of national human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination guidelines and structured cervical cancer screening, more than 1,000 fatalities per year are caused in the nation.

Prioritising CSR

The initiative is a part of a larger effort to reach the 500,000 women who are reportedly employed in the clothing business in Cambodia through a mobile testing programme that launches in November 2022. Screenings and tests will be done for the workers costing only US $1 per person. Each cervical cancer test will take only between five to fifteen minutes.

According to Mr. Travis Mitchell, AmCham’s executive director, corporate social responsibility and giving back to the nation and community are now among the organisation’s top fundamental principles.

All the alcoholic drinks and  gourmet canapés from the event that is to take place in the hotel’s ballroom, will be donated to Cambodia’s Mercy Medical Center.

“No woman should die of cervical cancer,” says Herman Kemp, General Manager of Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh. “But the disease remains a huge problem in Cambodia, mainly due to a lack of knowledge.

Cervical cancer is currently the main cause of female cancer mortality in low- and middle-income nations, accounting for 315,346 new cases and 168,411 fatalities among women in Asia.
