Nagpur: Sahil alias Azmat Kalsekar, the alleged mastermind of Amravati jailbreak in June, was arrested by Chiplun police and Ratnagiri crime branch in the last week of July. He had been eluding Amravati police for almost a month after escaping from Amravati Central Jail with two others. Kalsekar has fled from custody on at least three occasions. His two other accomplices are yet to be nabbed.
Kalsekar, serving a life sentence for assaulting a police officer, had been hiding at a den at Mankapur in Nagpur after the escape. Kalsekar, seeing Amravati police team, had jumped from the second floor to flee from the place. He was chased by Asst PI Mangala Mokashe and her team of Mankapur police, but still managed to flee. Sources claimed police found several documents of another jail break accused and Nagpur sharpshooter Raja Ghouse at the same place.
Amravati police team under CP Aarti Singh had been relentlessly tracking Kalsekar with the help of cellphone tower locations. Kalsekar was learnt to have taken shelter at Bhadrawati in Chandrapur before shifting to Chiplun. Amravati police had alerted their Chiplun and Ratnagiri counterparts about Kalsekar’s location.
It’s learnt Chiplun police had to shift Kalsekar’s wife and children to a lodge after the police learnt the goon had vowed to eliminate her because she did not apply for his bail. Kalsekar had also threatened a judge, whose security too was beefed up.
Kalsekar was earlier lodged at Nagpur Central Jail but shifted to Amravati after he started creating trouble.
