NAVI MUMBAI: A 28-year-old woman from New Panvel, who works as a receptionist at hotel in Vashi, was cheated of Rs 2 lakh by a conman whom she knew as he was a frequent customer of the hotel in Turbhe.
The fraudster assured her of a receptionist's job on a cruise in
Canada and made her transfer a total sum of Rs 2 lakh to his account under the pretext of payments for medical fees, documentation, and flight tickets for Canada, but he became incommunicado. The incident had occurred last year between October 10 and November 11.
But, she registered a FIR of cheating only recently, after she revealed it to her parents. The accused had told her that he was a banker and did business of job recruitment in banks abroad and asked her to send her resume, which she did. Later, Kamble contacted her over mobile and told her that she has been selected for reception's job on MSC Cruise in Canada. He then made her pay a total sum of Rs 1.36 lakhs and Rs 64,000 cash under the pretext of medical fees, documentation and USA flight ticket charges, informed police.
