JAIPUR: The city police has set up special permanent checkpoints at highways that lead to the city as part of intensive security arrangements for Independence Day. Additional commissioner of police Kailash Chandra Bishnoi said they have made adequate security arrangements for August 15.
He said special security measures are in place for the event at SMS Stadium. “We have posted four IPS rank officers to oversee the security here. Also, additional companies from Rajasthan Armed Constabulary (RAC) have been deployed. There will be three-tier security for the stadium,” he said.
He added that the stadium periphery will be under constant surveillance. Similar measures have been taken for the city’s security. “We have deployed fixed pickets at entry points of the city on all highways,” Bishnoi said, adding that permanent checkpoints are in operation since Thursday. “There are different checkpoints and pickets for the night in different parts of Jaipur,” he said.
Police said that armed guards will patrol important areas of the city. Security has been beefed up in Ramganj market, Badi Chaupar, Amar Jawan Jyoti, etc. Bishnoi said that additional personnel have been drawn from Special Task Force (STF), RAC, and Emergency Response Teams (ERTs).
Bishnoi said Jaipur police has also deployed teams at Sindhi Camp bus stand and railway stations. “A special check and search operation was conducted at all dharamshalas (rest houses), guest houses, etc,” he said.
Senior officials said that all station house officers (SHOs) are instructed to extensively carry out patrolling in their areas. Similarly, police intelligence also increased their vigilance through cops in plain clothes to ensure that suspects and miscreants are kept under control.
“All security arrangements are in place to facilitate joyous celebrations for people,” said an official.
