CHENNAI: Salem RR Biriyani’s outlet on the Tambaram-Velachery Road has been fined Rs 12,000 for preparing and serving food in unhygienic conditions.
After complaints from customers that they found worms in biryani, authorities on Sunday inspected the premises near Bharat Mata junction.
During this inspection, they found that only chilli chicken was prepared at this outlet and biryani was prepared at their kitchen in Guindy Industrial Estate and brought here.
"But we found their pest control measures (in the searched outlet) ineffective and they were also using banned one-time plastic for parcels. Since this is the third time that they were found using it, we have issued a show-case notice and fined them Rs 12,000 (under Food Safety and Standards Act,2006)," said Dr Anuradha, Food Safety Officer, Kancheepuram.
The officials alerted their counterparts in Chennai district to check the kitchen in Guindy Industrial Estate.
