PUNE: The Chakan police on Saturday booked two men for duping a 22-year-old automobile company employee of Rs 3.5 lakh, with the lure of a job in Germany.
The duo took money from the victim between May and October last year and told him to resign. "After quitting, the victim came to know that he had been duped," said assistant inspector Prakash Rathod of the Chakan police.
When the victim did not get his money back, he filed a police complaint on Saturday. A case has been registered under sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating), 465 and 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Rathod said that the complainant came in contact with one of the suspects through his colleague in December 2020. His colleague told the complainant that the latter could get a chance to work abroad through the suspect. "When the complainant contacted the suspect, the latter told him that there was a job in an automobile company in Germany and he would help him to secure it," he said.
Rathod said that the suspect first took Rs67,000 from the complainant and told him to wait for three months. "In August last year, the suspect introduced the suspect to his accomplice, who took another Rs62,500 from him on the pretext of registration work in Germany," Rathod said.
Rathod said the suspect's accomplice even sent a photocopy of his Aadhaar card to the complainant to gain his confidence and asked for Rs1.57 lakh more for passport, visa, insurance work and five-year stay arrangements.
"In October, the suspect's accomplice contacted the complainant and told him to resign from his job to leave for Germany in eight days. He requested the complainant to book three tickets on his credit card as two more persons would accompany him. The complainant spent Rs62,500 on the tickets," he added.
After that, the complainant realised that the name of the accomplice was different and he had shared fake Aadhaar card details. "When the complainant tried to contact them, the duo was not responding. Moreover, they did not return the complainant's passport," Rathod said, adding, "We have launched a search for them."
