At the Red Fort, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation on Independence Day, a multi-layered security cover along with Facial Recognition System cameras have been installed at each entry/exit point. Security personnel also deployed trained catchers to ensure that the premises remain monkey-free during the day. As many as 231 regular kite-flyers from the walled city area were roped in by the police to ensure a clear sky for about three hours on the morning of August 15. This year, the BJP government launched the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign as part of its ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’. The party-led governments in several states have been distributing flags and setting targets to manufacture the Tricolour.

PM Modi pays homage to those who lost lives during Partition; Cong slams BJP

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior BJP leaders on Sunday paid homage to those who lost their lives during the Partition as the Congress accused the ruling party of using the traumatic events as a "fodder" for its political battles. On the 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day', Modi paid tributes to all those who lost their lives during the Partition violence and applauded the resilience and grit of those who suffered during the tragedy.

He had announced last year that August 14 will be observed as 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day' in memory of the struggles and sacrifices of people. Union Home Minister Amit Shah said "inhuman" chapter of India's history can never be forgotten.

The Congress, however, alleged that the real intent of PM Modi to mark August 14 as 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day' is to use the traumatic events as "fodder" for his current political battles. Congress general secretary, communications, Jairam Ramesh said the tragedy of Partition cannot be misused to fuel hate and prejudice. (PTI)

How stories of Partition blur the lines that divide us

“Partition: Stories of Separation” is clearly a passion project for the musical diva that is Sonam Kalra. “Ever since I was a young girl, I’ve heard stories about the Partition. Both sides of my family came from the part of Punjab that is now in Pakistan. My mother’s family was from Rawalpindi and my father’s from Sargoda. Even though I didn’t have to live through the pain of Partition myself, I have always been moved to tears when talking about it with someone. I’ve often wondered why I should feel so deeply about it — perhaps it lies embedded in the memory of my DNA. And, perhaps, it is this pain that has led me to question this further,” she says.
