Kanpur: Postal department will release a special first day cover and a stamp to make “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsava” a memorable event on Independence Day.
According to the postal department, Col. SFH Rizvi, postmaster general, Kanpur region, will be the chief guest of the cover release function and will release the cover at 7.45 am.
These days the postal department is organizing rallies daily to commemorate the Amrit Mahotsava, and in this sequence, it organized the programme “Har Ghar Tiranga Walk Rally” from the Forest Training Centre led by Manoj Kumar Srivastava, senior superintendent, post office, Kanpur Nagar region.
The rally passed after passing from the city's main roads and Hanuman Temple, culminating at the Forest Training Centre. Mahesh Trivedi local MLA and local residents including morning walkers, carrying tricolour in hands, participated in the rally.
Meanwhile, the district administration y has geared itself for the “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsava programme. The home guard department took out a rally from Green Park which passed through the VIP Road, Parwati Bagla and culminated at Kailash Bhawan in CSA campus. Around 400 jawans home guards took part in the rally which was flagged off by district magistrate Vishakh G.
Divisional commissioner Raj Shekhar put the national flag at the Ganga Barrage on Saturday morning.
Guru Har Rai Academy at a programme held in the school campus distributed the national flag to its students and asked them to hoist it at the rooftops of their houses between August 13 and August 15.
Mayor Pramila Pandey said that she would lead a Tiranga rally from Kanpur Municipal Corporation headquarters at 9 am.
