Search operation at Akkampally Balancing Reservoir in Nalgonda, where three students drowned on Saturday
HYDERABAD: A fun outing for seven college students turned tragic on Saturday when three of them met a watery grave in a balancing reservoir in Nalgonda district. The students drowned in front of their friends and family members.
The deceased have been identified as D Akash (20) of Bichkunda in Nizamabad, B Ganesh (20) of Vemulavada, B Pharmacy second year students of Chilkur Balaji College of B Pharmacy in Aziz Nagar, Moinabad, and P Krishna (18), an Intermediate student from Hyderabad. Akash and Ganesh were classmates of Krishna's elder sister Priyanka and Krishna was sharing room with his sister's classmates at Kali mandir area in Rajendranagar.
On Saturday, the three students along with Priyanka, her classmates - Lohit, Chandu and Avinash - and Priyanka's father Gajanand, set out for Nagarjuna Sagar dam from Hyderabad. After spending a few hours at the Sagar dam, the youngsters along with Gajanand went to Akkampally Balancing Reservoir (ABR) in PK Pally mandal in Nalgonda.
At around 3 pm, six of them ventured into the waters of the reservoir to take a bath while Priyanka and Gajanand stayed back at the bank. "Akash, Ganesh and Krishna held one another's hands and got into the waters to take a dip. Krishna knew swimming. But when the trio ventured deep into the reservoir, they drowned. Three other friends managed to get out the water," Gudipally SI P Veerababu said.
Priyanka and Gajanand ran for help and stopped a few passers-by. Some persons jumped into the water and managed to pull out the bodies of two students and the third one was fished out after a while, the SI said.
Friends of the students and their family members were in inconsolable as the joy trip had suddenly turned tragic in a matter of a few seconds in front of their eyes.
