HYDERABAD: With infighting in Telangana Congress deepening ahead of the crucial Munugode bypoll, TPCC chief A Revenath Reddy on Saturday, in a damage control measure, tendered an unconditional apology to party's star campaigner and Bhuvanagiri MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy for his recent outbursts against the Komatireddy brothers.
Revanth's apology came after Venkat Reddy insisted for it following derogatory remarks made by the TPCC chief against the 'brand image' of Komatireddy brothers at a recent public meeting. Taking to Twitter, Revanth also said sorry for his 'home guard' remarks.
The ensuing bypoll is crucial for the Congress and Revanth too as it is being considered as a semi-final before the 2023 assembly polls. Komatireddy brothers enjoy a considerable influence among the voters in Nalgonda and Bhuvanagiri Lok Sabha constituencies. Munugode is part of Bhuvanagiri parliamentary seat represented by Venkat Reddy.
Though Venkat Reddy termed Revanth's apology as a 'good development', he continued to dilly-dally on making a commitment that he would campaign for the Congress against his brother Komatireddy Raj Gopal Reddy, who is all set to contest the bypoll on a BJP ticket.
Raj Gopal had already announced he would be formally joining the BJP in the presence of Union home minister Amit Shah at a public meeting in Munugode on Aug 21.
Revanth tweeted: "My apologies to brother and colleague @KomatireddyKVR garu. @manickamtagore @UttamINC."
Revanth also posted a video clip on his Twitter account in which he said 'sorry' to Venkat Reddy for his home guard remarks. Revanth went on to say making such bad comments was not good for anyone and asked the party's disciplinary committee to take necessary action against party leader Addanki Dayakar for making derogatory remarks against the Bhuvanagiri MP.
Revanth quarantined himself at his home after symptoms of Covid and could not attend party's Azadi Ka Gaurav rally in Munugode on Saturday. Even Venkat Reddy did not attend the rally though constituency incharge R Damodar Reddy claimed the former was invited. Earlier, Venkat Reddy said he was not consulted before party seniors constituted the Munugode bypoll strategy committee as a result of which he would stay away from campaigning. Meanwhile, leader V Hanumanth rao appealed to Venkat Reddy to relent as Revanth had aplogised.
