A 34-year-old widow was stabbed to death by a man, who had been forcing her into marriage for the last one year, in Gandhidham town of Kutch. The victim, Rimadevi Nishad, has three children. Her husband died around a year ago.
RAJKOT: A 34-year-old widow was stabbed to death by a man, who had been forcing her into marriage for the last one year, in Gandhidham town of Kutch. The victim, Rimadevi Nishad, has three children. Her husband died around a year ago. The accused Mitul alias Malo Patel had been forcing her to engage in a relationship with him ever since she lost her husband. But Nishad had rejected his advances.
On Thursday, Nishad and her friend Sakina Veera were going to Anjar GIDC when Patel and his friend followed them on a bike. He waylaid the two women and again started harassing Nishad, who then hurled expletives at him. In a fit of rage, Patel stabbed her in the chest and back, leaving her dead on the spot. Sakina approached the police and lodged a complaint. Both accused are on the run.
Bid to break ATM foiled
An attempt to break an ATM was foiled, thanks to the surveillance system that sounded a warning siren, in Rajkot’s Jyotinagar branch of SBI early on Friday. At around 3 am, an unidentified man entered the ATM and tried to break the machine. However, the surveillance company monitoring the security got an alert and sounded the warning siren. The man fled from the spot immediately. The bank branch manager lodged a complaint with the University Road police station in his regard.
Cash, ornaments stolen from house
Rajkot: Close to 150gm gold ornaments worth Rs 6.65 lakh and Rs 75,000 in cash were stolen from the house of a garment shop owner in Jamnagar’s Patnivad area early on Friday. The complainant Uvesh Luswala lodged a complaint with the police stating that he was at the shop while his mother Shabana had gone out to purchase some household items. When she returned home, the lock of the main door was broken. On checking inside, she saw that the ornaments and cash were stolen from the cupboard.
