NEW DELHI: With 91.2 crore eligible voters, India is the largest democracy in the world.
There has been a steady increase in the number of voters registered by the
Election Commission with respect to the overall population; and the number of polling stations has increased 5-fold – from 1.96 lakh in 1950 to 10.38 lakh in 2019.
Around 69% of the eligible population is registered to vote, and out of this 67% exercised their franchise in the 2019
Lok Sabha elections, compared to 45.67% in 1951.
