She is the second woman in the national capital to contract the infection.(File)A 22-year-old African woman has become the second woman to test positive for Monkeypox in the capital.
According to Dr. Suresh Kumar, MS at Lok Nayak Hospital, the patient had travelled from Nigeria around a month ago and has been staying in Delhi’s south district since then. She is currently admitted to Lok Nayak Hospital.
There have been five confirmed cases admitted so far and one has already been discharged.
As part of its preparedness to deal with monkeypox, the Delhi government has reserved beds or rooms in three government—Lok Nayak, Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital and Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital—and three private hospitals—Kailash Deepak Hospital Hospital, M D City Hospital, Batra Hospital and Research Centre—for suspected and confirmed cases. There are a total of 35 rooms reserved for confirmed cases and another 35 reserved for suspected cases across these hospitals.

According to a government statement, instructions have been issued to all government and private hospitals to notify all suspected cases of monkeypox and refer them to the designated hospitals for isolation and management, in coordination with district surveillance units put in place for surveillance, contact tracing and follow-ups. According to the statement the Delhi State Surveillance Unit is in coordination with the district units and the Airport Health Organization (APHO) at the IGI Airport.
