HYDERABAD: Telangana BJP chief Bandi Sanjay shot off an open letter to CM K Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday, urging him to release Rs 4,000 crore owed to women self-help groups on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. "In the last eight years of ineffective and indifferent TRS rule, women's groups have gone into a paralysis, subjecting them to untold misery," he said.
Sanjay said the Society for the Elimination of Rural Poverty had 3,99,120 women SHGs with a total of 43,29,058 members. There were 1,81,225 members in the Mission for the Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas.
The BJP chief said the state govt claimed to have set aside Rs 3,000 crore for interest payments to women's groups in 2021-22, but the money is yet to be given. "Similarly, the govt has allotted Rs 1,250 crore for the current fiscal year 2022-23, but not a single penny has been released," he said.
