"After the introduction of CUET, we now have three major entrance examinations in the country — NEET, JEE and CUET — and most students take at least two of these examinations, and many may even write all three. In NEET, you have Biology, Physics and Chemistry, and in JEE you have Maths, Physics and Chemistry. So, two subjects are anyway common there and the same subjects are also used in CUET for admission in various universities. So, why should we subject the students to multiple entrance examinations,” he told

The Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers Association (JNUTA) have expressed displeasure over the delay in CUET exams and have demanded that JNU should restore its time-tested admission procedure instead of relying on the National Testing Agency. “The GBM demands that the university withdraw from the agreement with the NTA and immediately restore JNU’s own time-tested admission procedures and institutional structures such as the Standing Committee on Admissions,” it added.
The admission process for Delhi University’s undergraduate courses is likely to be delayed by "at least a week" due to the extension of the CUET-UG schedule following exam cancellation at several centres last week because of technical glitches.
"The admission process is expected to stretch longer by a week as CUET was rescheduled. The entire admission process will take over a month," said a senior Delhi University official. Read full report here
The CUET examination which had been scheduled for August 4 to 6 had been postponed because of technical issues to August 12 to 14.
Later, it issued another notice stating that 15,811 candidates had approached it requesting a date other than August 12 to 14, and that many students had approached it requesting that their exams not be scheduled between 12 to 14 because of festivals during the period.
The notice stated that "considering the above requests, it has been decided that in place of 12 to 14 August 2022, the CUET (UG) – 2022 examination for all these candidates will now be conducted between 24 to 28 August 2022, and fresh Admit Card will be issued well before the date of Examination." The UGC chief says that some of the candidates who were originally scheduled to take the examination in Phase 3 i.e. August 07, 08, and 10, have been informed through their admit cards about the new dates (between August 21, 22, and 23). Their admit cards mentioning the centres of examination will be released on August 17. However, information about their dates and cities in which they are supposed to take the exam will be released today.
Similarly, students who couldn’t take the test during the second phase of exam (which was conducted on August 4, 5 and 6) due to technical problems will be allowed to appear in Phase 6 (from August 24 to 30). While these students will be informed about their cities and fresh exam dates today, their admit cards will be released on August 20.
The NTA faced a lot of heat for not being able to conduct the CUET-UG 2022 phase two exam properly at several exam centres due to technical snags. However, the UGC chairman said that the NTA has learnt from the August 4 episode and has since rectified its errors at any and every exam centre, saying "if you look at the exams cinducted on the kater dates, the exams were conducted with minimum or no problems".
In addition to this, the NTA will also now set up specific exam centres across the country which will be well equipped with the computers and other requirements, and will be managed by the NTA too. These NTA exam centres will be used specifically for such exams, along with other established centres.
“These centres can be later used as training centres, when the NTA is not conducting any exam in them and utilise the space,” he said.
If JEE Main and NEET are combined with CUET, the UGC chief would want the entrance exam to be held at least twice a year, then, to ensure that students get ample number of opportunities to improve their score.
"After the introduction of CUET, we now have three major entrance examinations in the country — NEET, JEE and CUET — and most students take at least two of these examinations, and many may even write all three. The UGC chairperson M Jagadesh Kumar told indianexpress.com that bringing JEE (Main) and NEET under the larger umbrella of CUET will reduce the burden on students, adding that the idea is in tune with the National Education Policy, 2020. JEE (Main) is the gateway examination for admission to premier engineering institutes in the country and NEET is the entrance test for all undergraduate medical programmes.
