HYDERABAD: Police have registered a criminal case following a complaint by a prominent city table tennis player, Naina Jaiswal, of online harassment for over a month.
The cops had earlier looked into the issue about a fortnight ago after it was brought to their notice by Naina's father. They traced it then to a man in Siddipet, who was found to be mentally unsound. He was counselled twice and let off with a warning. Though the harassment on Facebook and Instagram stopped after that for a few days, the stalking resurfaced on her Twitter account.
Police, however, are yet to establish if it is the same man or someone else who was harassing Naina.
Deputy commissioner of police (CCS) Gajarao Bhupal confirmed to TOI that Naina has been receiving objectionable messages on her social media accounts.
'Effort on to track accused'
Generally, I manage Naina's social media accounts. The nuisance from him started first on Facebook. So, we blocked his accounts. Then he started doing the same on Instagram," Naina's father Ashwini Jaiswal told TOI, adding that the man created a different account every time he was blocked. "In the last few days the harassment started on her Twitter account," he said.
"We suspect that it is the same person. We were told by the police that he is mentally unsound. He sent objectionable messages on the handles of our near and dear ones.," Jaiswal said. Cops said they were making effort to trace the accused.
