Trichy: Youth held for raping Class XI girl

TRICHY: A 20-year-old college student was arrested for raping and impregnating a 15-year-old minor girl in Trichy.
Police arrested M Prathap under sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.
Police said that the girl was studying in Class XI in a private school in Trichy, while Prathap was a final year student in a private college.
The two were in love for the past one year. Prathap used to visit the girl at her house whenever she was alone and rape her on the promise of marrying her.
A few days ago, the girl developed some health issues.
So, her mother took the girl to the Mahatma Gandhi memorial government hospital (MGMGH) where the doctors found that she was four months' pregnant.
The doctors intimated the police about the issue.
Police also received a complaint from the girl's mother.
Acting on the complaint, police arrested the accused and remanded him in judicial custody till August 24.
