Students take anti-drugs pledge in Trichy on Thursday
TRICHY: The district administrations of the central region organised various programmes to impart awareness among students about the ill effects of substance abuse. In Trichy, 11,500 students assembled at Anna stadium and took anti-drug pledge. In Thanjavur, 5,000 school and college students became part of the programme.
While addressing a conference in Chennai on Wednesday, chief minister M K Stalin directed district collectors and police officials to confiscate and attach the properties of drug peddlers.
Students from various schools and colleges performed classical and folk dances and sang songs highlighting the theme. Officials from the police department staged a play.
As many as 11,950 students assembled and took anti-drug pledges in presence of municipal administration minister KN Nehru and district collector M Pradeep Kumar at Anna Stadium.
Following the event, minister KN Nehru along with the district collector convened a meeting with officials from various departments, including the education department, to chalk out plans to eradicate drugs from the district.
In another programme held at Arasar Higher Secondary School in Thanjavur, around 5,000 students took pledges against drugs, along with district collector Dinesh Ponraj Oliver.
