JAMMU: Two persons were washed away by flash floods triggered by heavy rain in Ramban district of
Jammu & Kashmir on Thursday. Jammu recorded 189 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours, the highest in the last 26 years, resulting in mudslides, landslides and waterlogging in many areas of the division.
A mother and daughter were feared dead after flash floods triggered by heavy rains hit Neera area of Ramban. "Two persons are feared drowned due to flash floods near Neera due to heavy rains. They have been identified as Shamina Begum and her daughter Razia Bano," Ramban DC Mussarat
Islam said in a tweet. Reports from Ramban stated that some houses were also damaged in the area.
Due to incessant rains in the hills and plains, water levels in many rivers and streams, including Chenab river in Akhnoor and Tawi in Jammu, have been continuously rising. The administration and flood control department are monitoring the situation. The administration has advised people not to go near rivers and streams.
Waterlogging has occurred at many places in Jammu city due to rains. Continuous rainfall in R S Pura area of the district has led to an increase in water level in Bilol drain, forcing local administration to appeal to people not to go towards the local nalllahs.
Meanwhile, landslide in Panjtirthi area on circular road in Jammu city also caused damages to some vehicles while some vehicles got buried under the debris. Hostile weather also triggered flash floods in rivulets in Samba district where water entered many houses while traffic on Samba-Mansar road remained affected due to uprooting of trees on road. There were also reports that rainwater flooded many houses in Ramgarh area of Vijaypur.
