HYDERABAD: Cyber fraudsters duped a 79-year-old pensioner for ₹3 lakh by posing as representatives of the Electricity department. SVN Murthy from Begumpet lodged a complaint with cyber crime police stating that on Tuesday he received a call from a person who claimed to be an employee of the electricity department.
The caller told the victim that the previous month's bill payment was pending and for power supply, deposit ₹10 in the account mentioned by the accused. He sent a payment link to Murthy. He also made Murthy reveal his debit and credit card numbers along with CVV. Later, Murthy got message from the bank stating that ₹3.06 lakh was debited from his account. Police registered a case.
