PUNE: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday maintained its forecast of heavy to isolated very heavy rainfall in the ghat areas of the district amid triple-digit showers in areas like Lavasa in Mulshi tehsil and Bhor.
While Lavasa recorded 239mm rainfall in the 24 hours ending 8.30am on Wednesday, Bhor received 235mm, Lonavla in Maval tehsil recorded 192mm, Girivan in Mulshi tehsil reported 126mm and Malin in Ambegaon tehsil got 64mm.
"On August 11 (Thursday), we expect isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall in the ghat areas. On August 12 (Friday), the intensity of the rainfall will reduce, but the areas are likely to get isolated heavy rainfall," said a senior IMD official.
Apart from the ghat areas, widespread moderate rainfall was recorded across 13 tehsils in the district in the last 24 hours, the official said.
"The rainfall intensity will further reduce from Thursday," he added.
Apart from falling of boulders on roads in Ambegaon, Junnar and some locations in Bhor tehsils, the district did not report any major natural tragedy due to the heavy and consistent rainfall, officials from the district disaster management cell said.
"We are working in tandem with each tehsil administration. So, we could clear the boulders within a matter of few hours to regulate the vehicular movement on the roads. The situation was under control in the district on Wednesday," said a senior official from the cell.
In Pune city, light to moderate rainfall continued early on Wednesday morning. The IMD's observatories in Shivajinagar and Lohegaon recorded 28.1mm and 24.8mm rainfall, respectively, during the 36 hours ending 8.30pm on Wednesday.
"The city is expected to get moderate rainfall till August 12. Thereafter, cloudy weather conditions with light rainfall are expected to persist till August 16," said another IMD official.
