Maharashtra records 1,877 new coronavirus cases

Maharashtra on Thursday recorded 1,877 fresh coronavirus cases, while five more patients succumbed to the infection in the state, the health department said. With these additions, the state's overall Covid-19 tally reached 80,66,243, while the death toll increased to 1,48,162, the department said in a bulletin.

The state had recorded 1,847 coronavirus cases and five fatalities on Wednesday.

218 kg of ganja seized in Nagpur after Rajasthan Police tip-off

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence seized 218 kg of ganja from a truck in Maharashtra's Nagpur on a tip-off provided by the Rajasthan Police, an official said here on Thursday. The seized narcotics valued about Rs 40 lakh in the market, he said.

The consignment was being taken to Rajasthan from Visakhapatnam, Additional Director General of Police (Crime) Ravi Prakash Mehra said.He said they received intelligence inputs about the smuggling of ganja from Visakhapatnam to Ajmer district of Rajasthan on August 8.

Maharashtra legislature's monsoon session extended by two days; to conclude on Aug 25

The monsoon session of the Maharashtra legislature has been extended by two days, which will now conclude on August 25. The decision to extend the session was taken during the meeting of the state legislature's business advisory committee (BAC) held on Thursday. During the meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and attended by group leaders of all parties, it was decided that the monsoon session would be held between August 17 and 25. As per the earlier schedule, the session was to end on August 23.

IMD predicts moderate rain, strong wind

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted moderate rain in the city and suburbs with the possibility of heavy rainfall at isolated places in the next 24 hours. It has also forecast occasional strong winds of 40 to 50 kilometre per hour gusting up to 60kmph. According to civic officials, there will be a high tide of 4.59 metres in the Arabian Sea at 11.33 am and of 4.12 metres at 11.33pm. (PTI)
