Four reservoirs add Pune's monthly water quota in a day

PUNE: The water stock in the four dams in the Khadakwasla circle increased by 1.5 TMC - equivalent to the city's requirement for a month - in 24 hours ending Tuesday evening, following heavy rainfall in the catchment areas of the reservoirs.
The collective stock in the four dams stood at 23.09 TMC (79.18%) on Tuesday evening as compared to Monday' stock of 21.55 TMC. The live stock in Panshet climbed to 89.5% on Tuesday evening, while Varasgaon's storage stood at 80% of its storage capacity.
When it comes to rainfall, Temghar recorded 125mm showers in 24 hours ending Tuesday morning. Officials from the state irrigation department said Temghar has received over 2,000 mm rain so far, which is the highest among the five dams supplying water to Pune city.
A senior official of the irrigation department said, "The rainfall activity intensified on Monday evening. Varasgaon and Panshet received 75mm rainfall each till Tuesday morning. Till evening, both the dams recorded 40mm more rainfall each. We are expecting the spells to continue for the next two days."
Live storage of Bhama Askhed, the fifth dam supplying water to the city, reached 96% on Tuesday evening. The discharge from the dam into the river will begin after its live storage reaches 98%, the officials said.
