Tejashwi Yadav takes oath as Bihar deputy CM: Key points

NEW DELHI: Tejashwi Yadav on Wednesday took oath as the deputy chief minister of Bihar. The new Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav on assured that the new government will address unemployment and poverty on priority.
He also highlighted his confidence in the Mahagathbandhan and said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would be cornered as the opposition in Vidhan Sabha.

  • Born in 1989, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav is the youngest son of RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav.
  • Tejashwi married his Chandigarh-based friend Rachel Iris, who adopted a new name - Rajshree.
  • Tejashwi was selected by the Delhi Daredevils in IPL 2008, where he remained on the team's reserve bench for the entire season.
  • Tejashwi entered politics in 2015 and campaigned as a Mahagathbandhan candidate from Raghopur in the 2015 Bihar Legislative Assembly Election.
  • The alliance won a large majority in the legislature, resulting in his nomination as Bihar's deputy CM.
  • Yadav's name cropped up in a money laundering case relating to illegal land transactions during his father's tenure as the railway minister in the UPA-1 government.
  • Yadav took the sudden loss of power in his stride and worked to keep RJD afloat while his father ended up behind bars following convictions fodder scam cases.
  • Questions were raised about his ability to lead the party and the Grand Alliance after the Lok Sabha elections in which the opposition coalition conceded 39 out of 40 seats to NDA, and RJD drew a blank.
  • He steered the party to an impressive performance in the tightly contested 2020 assembly polls when it won 75 - the largest number of seats.
  • Yadav made waves as a doughty leader of the opposition, taking on the government of his father's arch-rival on the floor of the assembly, as well as on the streets.
