Nagpur: The state women commission (SWC) has taken suo moto cognizance of the three cases of Vidarbha — Gondia-Bhandara gang rape, murder of the five-year-old girl by family members and the sexual exploitation of the 13-year-old girl by the Ashramshala head at Chandrapur.
The SWC chairperson, Rupali Chakankar, who was in Nagpur on Monday, assured she would ensure trial of these cases were conducted in fast track courts.
Meanwhile, Bhandara police SP Lohit Matani has suspended a sub-inspector and an assistant sub-inspector of Lakhni police station while shunting out a head constable to the police headquarters after their dereliction of duty came to fore. The survivor of the Gondia-Bhandara gang rape case had sneaked out of Lakhni police station on August 1 without informing anyone and was raped for the second time.
Chakankar, who reached government medical college and hospital (GMCH), met the survivors of rape cases of Gondia-Bhandara and Bhadravati. “The survivors admitted to the GMCH are stable. The three incidents (Gondia-Bhandara, Subhas Nagar in Nagpur and Chandrapur) are equally brutal, inhumane and a blot on humanity. We have taken cognizance of the three cases,” said Chakankar while interacting with the media after meeting GMCH dean Dr Sudhir Gupta.
Chakankar also said she would ensure that the investigation of the three cases are being fairly and promptly done by the police and trials before fast track courts. “The Gondia-Bhandara gang rape survivor did not have an Adhar card and bank account for monetary assistance under the Manodharya scheme. We are helping her to ready the necessary documents,” she said.
Chakankar said the accused in all the three cases have been arrested except one in the Gondia-Bhandara gang rape case. “Cops under IPS Ragasudha R are probing the Gondia-Bhandara case. We hope to nab the third accused in the case soon,” she said.
DIG, Naxal range, Sandip Patil, who accompanied Chakankar to GMCH, said there was no missing complaint registered by the gang rape survivor’s family members as she was in the habit of leaving home and returning after some days. “Police have learnt that the gang rape survivor had earlier left home and gone to Gujarat for two years but the details are being confirmed. We are working on the clues regarding the third accused,” said Patil.
