Nagpur: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Maharashtra University of Health Sciences and Gondwana University in Gadchiroli on Monday to continue the internship programme regarding inter-disciplinary research and tribal health issues.
On the occasion, select students from Nagpur division who have completed the summer internship programme of the MUHS were awarded certificates. As part of a pilot project, a group of non-medical students from tribal-dominated parts of Nagpur division were given a chance of internship with Nashik headquartered MUHS.
Following success of the pilot batch, both the universities have signed the MoU to continue the internship programme. A series of other projects have also been planned as part of this pilot project, said sources.
MUHS vice-chancellor Lieutenant General (retired) Dr Madhuri Kanitkar said it is necessary to reach out to the people at the grass roots level of the society. “For this, MUHS has started various schemes for students. This activity is important to provide health facilities to the people in remote areas and also to enable the students to know the problems of the people. For this, various methods should be explored using digital technology,” she said.
Gondwana University vice-chancellor Dr Prashant Bokare said the MoU with the MUHS will make it easier to resolve health issues faced by people in backward areas. “It is necessary to fulfil the social duty effectively. Through this project, tribals will also realize that they are part of the social chain,” he added.
Pro-vice-chancellor of Gondwana University Dr Shriram Kawade, pro-VC of MUHS Dr Milind Nikumbh, registrar Anil Hirekhan and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
