Indian shuttler PV Sindhu won her maiden singles gold at the Commonwealth Games defeating Michelle Li on the last day of the quadrennial event in on Monday. Sindhu bagged the medal in the women's singles category

The 27-year-old two-time Olympic medallist, who was unsuccessful in the previous two attempts - settling for silver at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast and bronze at the 2014 Glasgow Games - finally broke the jinx with a commanding performance against an opponent ranked 13th in the world.

After Sindhu bagged India its 19th gold of the CWG 2022, the Internet was flooded with well-wishes from her fans across the world. Big personalities such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Droupadi Murmu and more also applauded the badminton ace for bringing home a gold.

"The phenomenal @Pvsindhu1 is a champion of champions! She repeatedly shows what excellence is all about. Her dedication and commitment is awe-inspiring. Congratulations to her on winning the Gold medal at the CWG. Wishing her the best for her future endeavours," PM Modi led the congratulations for Sindhu.

The President of India praised the 27-year-old for creating magic on the court and enthralling millions.

"Your masterly win makes our Tiranga fly high & our national anthem resonate at Birmingham. Heartiest congratulations!" Murmu tweeted.

"India is delighted at this historic accomplishment," the Defence Minister of India, Rajnath Singh said, congratulating Sindhu and wishing that she keep scaling higher and newer heights of success.

"Congratulations to @Pvsindhu1 for winning the Gold Medal at the Birmingham games. India is delighted at this historic accomplishment. May you keep scaling higher and newer heights of success and continue inspiring others. My best wishes," Singh wrote.
