An elderly man was tied to an electric pole and thrashed to death by his family members in broad daylight in the tribal belt of Koraput district in Odisha.
The deceased, identified as Kursha Maniaka, got into a heated argument with members of his family after he allegedly broke the asbestos sheet covering his son’s house over a personal dispute.
The spat took an ugly turn when Maniaka’s brother, son and daughter-in-law tied him to an electric pole and attacked him with wooden sticks. Videos show a woman and a young man beating the elderly man mercilessly.
Unable to defend himself, Maniaka can be seen raising both his feet off the ground and crying out in agony as his assailants rain blows on his legs. The elderly man was gravely wounded in the assault and succumbed on the spot. Later, the accused cremated his body with the help of locals.
Some villagers informed the police about the incident. A police team arrived at the scene of the crime and nabbed one person. Two other accused are absconding.
A senior Police officer told India Today that further investigation is underway and efforts are on to trace the two accused who are on the run.
