The J&K administration on Sunday imposed strict restrictions and suspended mobile internet services in parts of Srinagar to prevent Muharram procession from the city centre Lal Chowk. Officials said restrictions were imposed to maintain law and order.
The restrictions were put in place following a meeting held by Srinagar deputy commissioner Muhammad Asad Choudhary, in which reports from 'field magistrates, police officers and intelligence agencies' were considered. "Law and order and security concern is the topmost priority of the government of the J&K keeping in view the larger public interest and safety of its citizens," read the official order.
