Rooftop solar projects to come up at 7 medical colleges, 32 DHH buildings

Health and family welfare department has asked the director of health services (DHS) and director of medical education and training (DMET) to furnish consolidated building-wise details required to finalise the solar capacity for participation in OREDA’s RESCO programme for the development of grid-connected solar rooftop power plants.

BHUBANESWAR: Rooftop solar projects will come up at seven medical colleges and 32 district headquarters hospitals (DHHs) across the state. It will be installed on the rooftops of health institutions and hospitals under the renewable energy service company (RESCO) programme of the Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency (OREDA).


Health and family welfare department has asked the director of health services (DHS) and director of medical education and training (DMET) to furnish consolidated building-wise details required to finalise the solar capacity for participation in OREDA’s RESCO programme for the development of grid-connected solar rooftop power plants.

Under the proposed SuBaH (Sun’s Blessings and Health) scheme of the RESCO programme, rooftop solar projects will be set up in health institutions. It will not only provide green power to the seven medical colleges and 32 DHHs, but also reduce expenditure by cutting electricity purchases.

OREDA is planning to invite bids under RESCO mode for the selection of solar power developers. “We are presently assessing the site-wise feasible capacity for different buildings based on the available roof area, electricity consumption pattern and regulatory provisions to facilitate the bidders,” said OREDA official communication to the health department.
These medical colleges were SCB medical college and hospital (MCH), Cuttack, MKCG MCH Berhampur, VIMSAR Burla, FM MCH Balasore, SLN MCH Koraput, PRM MCH Baripada and Bhima Bhoi MCH Balangir. The solar plants will be set up on the rooftops of these MCHs and 32 DHHs in the state.
