JAIPUR: Mild to moderate showers continued across the state on Sunday at many places. On Sunday morning heavy rainfall was also witnessed in Jaipur, Ajmer, Dausa, Alwar and Bharatpur districts. Bhainsorgarh (Chittorgarh) received a rainfall of 60 mm, which was highest in the state.
In Jaipur, rainfall started at 10.30 am and it lasted for more than 90 minutes and flooded major roads and localities in the city. Areas including Malviya Nagar, Sanganer, Jagatpura, Sodala, Queens Road, Jhotwara, Murlipura and Bani Park witnessed a heavy rainfall.
Many city roads including Sikar Road, Statue Circle, Tonk Road and SMS Highway were submerged in rainwater where people could be seen walking in knee deep water. According to the Jaipur Met office, the city received a rainfall of 34 mm on Sunday.
Even after the rain stopped, the traffic on city roads was chaotic as vehicles were moving at a slower pace. The underpasses were also flooded which led the commuters to avoid using them. Also, the low lying localities of Shastri Nagar, Bhatta Basti, MD Road, Chandi Ki Taksal, Ghoda Nikas Road and others remained flooded for more than three hours even after rain stopped. In many areas the garbage was spilling over as well.
Jaipur in this season, so far, has witnessed a good rainfall. “Monsoon rainfall in Jaipur has been in abundance this season. With just one more monsoon month left, the city can expect to get higher rainfall compared to what it had received last year,” said an officer with the Jaipur Met office.
Likewise, moderate to heavy rainfall was also witnessed in Udaipur, Chittorgarh, Ajmer, Sirohi, Bhilwara, Sriganganagar, Barmer, Pali and some parts of Jodhpur.
In its forecast, the Jaipur Met office stated that mild to moderate showers will continue at many districts in the eastern Rajasthan and some districts in the western Rajasthan in the next 24 hours.
