CHENNAI: The state government has sought inputs from the public as part of the process to enact a fresh legislation to govern online games.
A statement from the government on Sunday said the report submitted by one member panel on online gaming is under consideration of the government. Meanwhile the government said various stakeholders including parents, teachers, students, doctors and social activists can give their inputs.
“Stakeholders may give their inputs on homesec@tn.gov.in before August 12. Organizations desirous of making personal representations can send their request by 5 pm on August 9,” the statement said.
“Stakeholders’ consultation will be held on August 11 from 4pm onwards. Separate time slots will be given for organizations. These organisations may attend the consultation meeting only after receipt of their time slots,” it added.
The state government constituted the panel led by retired justice K Chandru after a series of suicides attributed to online gaming addiction. About 20 deaths have been reported in the recent past due to financial distress caused by online rummy, the statement said, adding that unregulated online games were leading to learning disorders among students. “The Committee’s report is under the active consideration of the state government,” the statement said.
