MUMBAI: The BEST celebrated its Foundation Day on Sunday with the launch of an unique 'Chalo Pay' service for daily commuters in Mumbai.
Now, users will no longer need to purchase a mobile ticket prior to boarding a bus. They can simply board any bus and pay with their mobile, and their mobile ticket will be generated upon payment.
"It is India's first public transport focused payment system. Named Chalo Pay, the feature is available on the BEST Chalo App. It is an offline payment system which will benefit scores of commuters," said BEST general manager Lokesh Chandra.
Users can recharge the mobile wallet using UPI, net banking, debit and credit cards, and other online payments, and then use the wallet balance for instant payments for their bus tickets. They simply have to inform the conductor that they wish to pay using mobile, and hold their phone next to the conductor’s ticketing machine, or scan the QR code, to pay for their ticket. "This eliminates the problems of loose change for passengers and conductors alike," Chandra said. Once the payment is successful, the mobile ticket will appear on your app within a few minutes.
As part of the Foundation Day celebrations and 75 years of municipalisation, BEST GM inaugurated a mini museum on history of BEST and a special Rangoli event, both of which will be open to the public from Monday from 11am to 7pm at Ravindra Natya Mandir in Prabhadevi.
