Railways Ministry undertakes drive under 'Operation Yatri Suraksha' to enhance security of passengers

India's Railway Protection Force is launching a pan-India initiative, called 'Operation Yatri Suraksha,' in an attempt to improve passenger security.

Under the operation, the RPF will take various steps including increasing CCTV surveillance, escorting trains, surveilling active criminals and increasing police presence at stations.

To kick off the program, a month-long pan-India drive was launched in July 2022, against criminals targeting passengers.

During the drive, 365 suspects were nabbed by RPF personnel and were handed over to their concerned GRPs for legal action. Of these, 322 cases were passenger crimes i.e. theft of passenger belongings, drugging, robbery, chain snatching etc.

RPF will continue its efforts to enhance the security of passengers over Indian Railways in future too by launching drives, improving response, infusing technology and innovation in its working to enhance its response, effectiveness and reach and to realize its objective of "Sewa Hi Sankalp".
