Jaipur: The death toll due to lumpy skin disease among cows in the state has climbed to nearly 8,000 on Friday while the number of infected cows has crossed 1.5 lakh.
Chief minister Ashok Gehlot had convened an emergency meeting of the officials and ministers. He joined the meeting from Delhi through a video conference.
Gehlot said, the disease has to be taken as a challenge like Covid. “This requires support of both the government and social organisations. There would be no shortage of money. But there is a shortage of medicines. There is also no effective medicine or vaccine available for the disease.”
He said, the disease has spread to about 20 states in the country. Ministers in charge would go to the respective affected districts and need to create awareness about the disease.
He said Union minister Parshottam Rupala is coming to Jaipur on Saturday and a decision will be taken on vaccination. The chief minister said there is a need for creating awareness about the prevention of the disease.
He said the MLAs also could spend money on preventive measures through the MLA area development fund.
He directed sarpanches and people representatives to convene meetings at the villages and launch an awareness campaign as the disease is spreading very fast.
