Electric Royal Enfield launch by 2025-26: What to expect

Royal Enfield has had a busy 2022 having launched the Scram 411, the new Classic 350, and the new Hunter 350 launches on Sunday. During the hustle and bustle of the Hunter 350's launch ongoing in Bangkok, Thailand, there was a chat about electrification in the Royal Enfield lineup. It has been known that there will be an electric Royal Enfield but launch timelines have been restricted to speculations and rumours. Now though, Siddhartha Lal, MD, Eicher Motors has stated that the very first electric Enfield will break cover in the next three to four years.
While it isn't a confirmation of its launch date or month or even the year, it is confirmation that the brand is taking the concept of an electric motorcycle seriously and that there will be one.

Citing the example of the Hunter 350 for which development began in 2016 (although this also includes the time vortex of the pandemic), Lal underlined that Royal Enfield will not roll out any product with the intention of rolling it out sooner than later. Instead, it'll take its time for the development process.
He said that research is ongoing at Royal Enfield which is working with a few basic platforms but nothing concrete yet. It's not just about mounting an electric motor onto a current platform and calling it a day, he added.

Launching an electric motorcycle that is the equivalent of a 350 or a 650 would be a very expensive proposition. A ground-up electric Royal Enfield will launch when battery tech improves and costs climb down. The product will be a Royal Enfield and when we do launch it, it will be something good, so we need to take time to build that product which meets all expectations," says Lal.
So, expect an all-new model with an all-new powertrain for the electric RE with a range of about 120 km per charge. The company is working on battery capacity, size and range, prepping to roll out an electric bike with performance the equivalent to its 350cc motorcycles. "The idea to build an electric motorcycle that's not just aimed at convenience and cost saving for the consumer but to build onw that's fun to ride. And the instant torque available on electrics can ensure such a model."
