Mangaluru: Against the backdrop of the volatile atmosphere prevailing in Mangaluru city in the aftermath of three reportedly political murders, City police commissioner N Shashi Kumar on Wednesday appealed to the public not to pay heed to rumours. The police commissioner’s words of caution follows circulation of rumours about an attack in Ullal – an incident that never occurred. Clarifying that no instance of violence had been reported in Ullal, Shashi Kumar said, “Rumour of an attack in Ullal, and another about an assault near the Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd, are far from the truth.”
He said that he had visited both the spots in question to ascertain the truth. “I spoke to the locals in Ullal, in addition to the man who levelled the allegation. This individual confirmed to feeling anxious, thinking that he was being followed, which was not the case,” Shashi Kumar said.
