Gurugram: Elderly woman tied up, gagged and robbed at home in Sector 57

GURUGRAM: An elderly woman was allegedly robbed in an upscale society in Sector 57 inside her house while her husband slept on another floor on Tuesday. The crime has yet again raised concerns about the safety of the senior citizens living alone in the city.
Police said the incident took place on Tuesday night in Ansal Florence Elite society in Sector 57. Rama Sharma was asleep in a bedroom on the ground floor, while her husband Ashok (67) was sleeping in another bedroom on the first floor of their bungalow, due to some renovation work going on in the house.
Rama Sharma was allegedly attacked by at least four masked men around 3.30am on Tuesday, who tied her up, gagged her and fled with two gold bangles and a mobile phone they found on the ground floor, police said. The woman is allegedly in deep trauma and is being treated at a private hospital.
According to the complaint filed by Rama, the robbers spent around one hour inside her house which they entered from the back as the door there was kept open due to renovation work. “All four men had their faces covered with cloth. Two of them pounced on me and overpowered me. They started asking for the money and threatened to kill me,” she said in her complaint.
“I tried to scream but they tied me up and gagged me. I felt suffocated. They snatched two gold bangles and my mobile phone,” she said. The robbers allegedly took her upstairs and searched the rooms there, but when they heard a noise, they decamped swiftly with whatever they could get.
An FIR has been filed under sections 458 (house-breaking by night), 392 (robbery), and 34 (common intention) at Sector 56 police station.“We are exploring the CCTV footage of the nearby area and are trying to identify the accused. They will be nabbed soon,” said inspector Amit Kumar, SHO of Sector 56 police station. Ashok said he suspected the involvement of some labourers in the crime. Labourers have been working on renovation at his bungalow for the last three months but one or two were not coming on work for the last two days, he said. pti
