The governor felicitated the representatives of the 11 institutions that secured top 10 rankings in different categories.
CHENNAI: Educational institutions excelling in different streams should come together for cross fertilisation of ideas, Tamil Nadu governor R N Ravi said on Thursday. The governor was speaking after inaugurating a conclave on 'Excellence of Higher Education in Tamil Nadu' at Raj Bhavan.
The conclave was organised by Raj Bhavan to felicitate the 10 top ranking institutions in the state as per the National Institute Ranking Framework.
"Each university I have visited has been doing some outstanding work for so many years either in the field of studies, research, innovation or their own administration. This should be shared with others and not restricted to them. The best practices in each institution will help others assess their strengths and weaknesses and grow better," said the governor.
He said when educational institutions excel, the country excels.
In the state, government and private institutions should collaborate and in turn they should collaborate with the central institutions. "The objective of the higher education is the same," he said.
Congratulating the institutions that secured top 10 rankings, the governor said that they should continue to strive to remain on top, while others should improve to compete with them. He felicitated the representatives of the 11 institutions that secured top 10 rankings in different categories.
Higher education minister K Ponmudy said that the institutions from Tamil Nadu have secured top rankings in almost all categories. In total, 163 institutions from the state were featured. More government institutions should join the competition, he said.
"The Presidency College is the only government institution that has made to the top 10 rankings," he pointed out.
Health Minister Ma Subramanian said that Christian Medical College, Vellore, is one institution that has utilised Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance scheme to the fullest. "So far, 83 lakh people have benefited through the health insurance scheme and added that 1,00,001 accident victims have benefited thought the Nammai Kakkum 48 scheme. The latest patient is undergoing treatment at Saveetha hospital," he said.
