THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As part of the 75th anniversary of the country's independence, the state cabinet on Wednesday decided to recommend the governor for the release of as many as 33 prisoners by waiving their remaining period of imprisonment.
The release will be recommended for those prisoners who have been found eligible for premature release based on criteria set by the
government. The list will exclude those involved in serious crimes.
The cabinet had recommended the release of another 33 prisoners in May, which included the Kalluvathukkal hooch tragedy accused Manichan. It was then cleared by the governor.
The cabinet also decided to disburse the pending arrears to the fair price shop dealers as their commission for distributing food kits.
It also decided to acquire 50 acres of land from the 100 acres acquired for the KTU for organisations handling technology developmental projects through KIIFB funding. tnn
