Gujarat: Woman smothers liquor-addict husband

RAJKOT: A 65-year-old man was smothered allegedly by his wife who was fed up with his daily drunken fracas in Kotha Vistori village of Khambhaliya taluka in Devbhumi Dwarka district.
Police said that deceased Lalji Jadeja was addicted to liquor for several years and he used to daily abuse his wife and daughter by raising doubts about their character.
A few days ago, Jadeja’s son Subhash was arrested by Salaya police for liquor trafficking. On Tuesday morning, Jyotsna (59) and her daughter Harshida, were preparing to leave for Salaya to secure bail for Subhash. While they were leaving, Jadeja, who was heavily drunk, again started hurling abuses at them and resorted to character assassination.
Jyotsna got extremely enraged and pushed him on the floor. She then sat on his chest and smothered his face with a pillow, leaving Jadeja dead on the spot. Both women nonchalantly left the house for Salaya, leaving the door open.
In the evening, Jadeja’s sister Lili, who lives nearby, went to give him tea and snacks. On entering the house, she saw him lying dead on the floor.
Salaya police reached the house and began questioning people. Doubting that it was an insider’s job, they questioned Jyotsna and Harshida.
“Harshida confessed that her mother killed his father as she could no longer bear his daily torture,” said A M Patel, inspector, Salaya police station.
