CUET UG 2022: The first day of Phase II of the Common University Entrance Test undergraduate (CUET UG) 2022 got off to a rocky start with the National Testing Agency cancelling the second shift of the exam across the country because of technical snags.

The agency announced that the question paper of the second slot was uploaded late. The CUET exam was supposed to start at 3 pm, but the question papers were uploaded only around 5 pm forcing NTA to call off the second shift completely.

Candidates who were allotted time in the second slot today will be given a new time and date between August 12 and 14. “In case, the 12-14 August 2022 is not suitable, the candidates can send an e-mail to datechange@nta.ac.in mentioning their desired date and roll number,” NTA said in its statement.

The first day of the second phase of CUET-UG was marred with technical glitches right from the start. On Thursday morning, several centres cancelled the exam last minute due to “server issues.” Many students also claimed that they couldn’t complete their papers due to technical snags and would have to reappear for the exam.

NTA confirmed that roughly 2,000 students across about 20 exam centres across the country were affected by this. These examinees will have to appear for the exam on August 12.

Candidates discovered their exam was rescheduled only after they had reached their centres. “There was no information on the official website. The centre just told us the exam is cancelled. Later, a friend showed me the notice on Twitter,” Ronojoy’s Mukherjee, who was supposed to take the exam at a centre in Noida, Sector 64, told The Indian Express.

Another student, Sakshi Adlakha, backed Mukherjee’s story. “I reached the centre on time and on the spot we were informed that the exam has been cancelled. The centre officials announced it and other parents and students were also saying that the exam has been postponed,” she said.

There were also instances of candidates being unable to finish their paper because of technical snags during the exam. Several students at Delhi university complained that they couldn’t complete the ‘general test.’ Twenty-one-year-old Harsh Choudhary was among them. “Due to technical difficulties, the general test questions did not appear on the screen. We sat there for five hours but couldn’t attempt the paper. Most people couldn’t submit their answers. We will have to sit for the entire paper again later, which will be informed later.”

Garima Shreya (17) couldn’t take the test during the first phase due to technical problems. She tried again on Thursday but faced the same problem. “I appeared for Accounts, Business, English and General Test. This was my third attempt after server issues that took place in July. Even after postponing to today, I couldn’t attempt the General Test because of technical issues. Now I will be appearing for the exam a fourth time with no certainty of the date.”

However, later during the day, the technical problems only seem to have intensified. “.. the question paper for the second shift of the examination could only be uploaded at 5 pm andthe download at 489 centres could start at 5:25 pm, while the exam was scheduled to begin from 3 pm,” the NTA said.

“Reports were asked from the observers /city coordinators on ground. Based on their recommendations, the second shift scheduled for 04 August 2022 (Shift 2) (from 3pm to 6 pm) is cancelled and the same will now be conducted between 12 to 14 August 2022,” the agency announced.
