Hooch tragedy: AMOS directors withdraw pleas in Gujarat

AHMEDABAD: Facing summons in the Botad hooch tragedy, the directors of Amos Corporation - Samir Patel, Chandu Patel, Pankaj Patel and Rajit Choksi - on Wednesday withdrew their anticipatory bail pleas from the HC after Justice Nikhil Kariel conveyed that he would not entertain the pleas as there were no exceptional circumstances for direct intervention by the court.
Asked what exceptional circumstances led the applicants to approach the HC directly and not the sessions court, the lawyers submitted that because of a charged atmosphere in Botad, they felt the hearing should take place in the high court. The HC did not accept the argument.
