PATNA: The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on Wednesday announced the schedule for the party’s organisational election, which will start from August 16 and continue for nearly two months. As per the details shared by the party’s spokesperson and national assistant returning officer, Chitranjan Gagan, the RJD will elect its next president at the party’s national council meeting to be held on October 11.
So far, the party founder,
Lalu Prasad, has retained this post for 11 terms and now it has to be seen whether ailing Lalu passes on the party’s baton to his younger son and leader of opposition in the state legislative assembly Tejashwi Prasad Yadav or any other family member before the end of his tenure of three years which will expire in December this year.
When asked if Lalu, who is suffering from various health issues, will give the responsibility to Tejashwi, a senior leader said, “No one can say what is in his mind.”
According to Gangan, before the election to the post of national president, the election for the post of state presidents will be held during meetings of the state councils at all the state headquarters on September 11.
These council members will elect the members of the state working committees as well as the national council members, who will then elect the national president.
