NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Wednesday said they had arrested a man nine years after he was booked in a case under the Maharashtra Control Of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). Police said the accused used to provide financial and other logistics support to the criminals.
The accused, Sunil Beri, a native of Jhajjar in Haryana, was involved in eight criminal cases including theft, cheating, and criminal misappropriation in Delhi, Haryana,
Rajasthan, and UP.
Deputy commissioner of police (special cell) Jasmeet Singh said they received information that the accused frequented areas in outer Delhi, Jhajjar and Rohtak in Haryana. Later, it was found that he was residing in Rohtak. A team led by two inspectors raided the place and arrested him.
“He was previously involved in eight criminal cases. His 14 associates were earlier arrested in the case of MCOCA and all of them have been facing trial in this case,” police said. But Beri had gone underground.
Members of his syndicate used to waylay and rob tractors, containers and trucks laden with costly items on highways at gunpoint by abducting their drivers and helpers and further abandoning them after robbing their trucks.
