PATNA: At least five people were killed and seven others injured when a speeding truck rammed into a roadside eatery in Vaishali district on Wednesday.
The incident occurred around 1.30pm near Bahuara Chowk on state highway-49 under the Patepur police station area in the district. The driver of the truck lost control over the vehicle and rammed into the eatery where seven people were having lunch. The five others were in an e-rickshaw parked outside the hotel.
Expressing grief over the incident, CM
Nitish Kumar announced an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh each to the next of the kin of the victims.
The CM asked the Vaishali DM to ensure proper treatment of the injured people. “Four people died on the spot and eight others were taken to Hajipur sadar hospital. One of the injured persons died while undergoing treatment at the hospital,” said Ramashankar Kumar, SHO of Patepur police station. Four of the victims were identified as Mukesh Kumar (19), Mohd Naeem Ansari (35), Pankaj Kumar (30) and Jagmaya Devi (41).
