Commonwealth Games 2022 LIVE Updates: Sreeshankar to present India's case for gold in long-jump, boxers seek to assure medals
Commonwealth Games LIVE: After an eventful day in Birmingham yesterday where India bagged four bronze medals to take the total medal count to 18 and some other athletes progressing to their respective semi-finals, today's focus will largely be on Murali Sreeshankar and Muhammed Anees Yahiya who stand a chance to win gold in the men's long jump event.
Sarita Singh and Manju Bala will also be vying to secure a place in the final of the women’s hammer throw and the boxers will also blow punches seeking to win and get medal assurances.Indian boxers Hussamuddin Mohammad and Nitu Ganghas yesterday progressed to the semifinals of men's 57kg and women's 48kg respectively to assure the country of two more medals at the Commonwealth Games.Judoka Tulika Mann confirmed a medal by reaching women's +78 kg finals.
Squash player Saurav Ghoshal, who won a historic bronze medal yesterday, will be back in action today in a mixed doubles round 16 match. Ghoshal, India's leading squash player, beat James Willstrop yesterday to get India its first bronze medal in squash singles at CWG.
The men's hockey team will take on Wales today after winning 8-0 versus Canada yesterday. Harmanpreet Singh and Akashdeep Singh scored a brace and helped India clinch the top spot in their group.
India's women's cricket and hockey teams won their respective must-win games to progress to the semi-finals.
The Indian shuttlers also begin their individual campaigns today. Kidambi Srikanth will be up against Uganda's Daniel Wanagaliya and Aakarshi Kashyap will be in a face off versus Pakistan's Mahoor Shahzad.

India's women's cricket and hockey teams won their respective must-win games to progress to the semi-finals. The cricket team defeated Barbados, while Indian women's hockey team also moved to the semis after a 3-2 victory over Canada in an exciting final Pool A game. The men's hockey team also thrashed Canada winning the match 8-0. Harmanpreet Singh and Akashdeep Singh scored a brace.

India ended its campaign in the weightlifting competitions in the 2022 Commonwealth Games with 10 medals - three gold, three silver and four bronze. This is a notch higher than nine medals the weightlifters won in 2018 Commonwealth Games. However, India had won five gold medals in 2018. Mirabai Chanu, Jeremy Lalrinnunga and Achinta Sheuli won the three gold medals for India this time.
