Accused in police custody
JAIPUR: The Vidhyadhar Nagar police on Wednesday arrested two youths for allegedly extorting the family’s gold jewellery from a minor after stealing passwords of the latter’s Instagram account.
SHO (Vidhyadhar Nagar) Virendra Kumar Kureel said that the police arrested Kunal Modi (18), and Yogesh Kumar (19).
Police said that the accused had befriended the minor boy and then got access to his Instagram password. “The two accused then sift through the minor’s friends on the social media app and took photos of a girl. The girl was a friend of the minor,” an official said, adding that the accused then threatened to blur the girl’s photo and make it go viral on different apps.
The minor got scared and handed them his mother’s gold chains, mangalsutra, rings etc. Police said that the minor’s father had filed an FIR about the case. Police also suspect that the accused may have threatened other minor boys in a similar manner. “The minor got scared that he might be defamed if one of his friends are subjected to such photos on social media. The two accused kept blackmailing and continued to extort valuable items,” said the official.
The city police also said that the two accused had hidden the jewellery at different places in Jaipur and Haryana. “ We are trying to ascertain if the two had also tricked other minors into paying them money in a similar fashion,” said the official.
