Mysuru: In a big relief to users of the 42km Outer Ring Road (ORR), Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) will soon depute 24 pourakarmikas and vehicles to clear debris and maintain cleanliness in the vicinity. Similarly, Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) and MCC will jointly maintain the streetlights.
MCC commissioner G Lakshmikanth Reddy told reporters that the 24 pourakarmikas are likely to start work next month. “MUDA and MCC will maintain the streetlights on ORR as per the decision taken earlier. As we received a single bidder for our first tender, and we have floated another tender. By
Dasara we will take up the maintenance works,” he said.
Reddy informed that the state government permitted MCC to waive off interest on the pending water bill dues for the next six months starting from July 15. “It is a one-time measure applicable only for domestic customers,” he said.
MCC is struggling to collect Rs 146 crore principal amount in water dues and Rs 74 crore interest accumulated on this.
Reddy said the public is now allowed to pay their water bill while it is issued by the executives at their doorstep. “The public can use UPIs, credit or debit cards for this purpose,” he said.
Reddy said in most wards, waste segregation at the source is good. “We identified a few wards where it is low and efforts will be done to educate the residents on the importance of waste segregation at source,” he said.
Reddy said MCC intensified its drive against single use plastic. “Till now we seized 1,350 kilograms of plastic and collected Rs 12 lakh fine. However, our intention is not collecting fine; but ensuring that this ban order is implemented effectively,” he said.
Meanwhile, MCC is organising an e-waste collection drive across the city from August 8 to 15. City residents can drop e-waste in 25 dedicated centres that will be opened for this purpose.
